Professor Anita Lie

Anita Lie a professor at Widya Mandala Surabaya Catholic University and a consultant on school improvement in remote regions. Her research interests include teacher development and heritage language learning. In 2011, she was a research fellow at UC Berkeley. Her research on heritage language learning among Indonesian-Americans was funded by AIFIS. She got a 2018 Dedicated Scholar Award from Kompas.id. She is currently serving in the National Accreditation Agency for the period of 2023-2028.
Professor Dr. Changpeng Huan

Dr. Changpeng Huan is Professor in Discourse Studies, and Associate Dean at School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. He obtained a PhD degree in Linguistics at Macquarie University, Australia. His research focuses on news discourse studies, emotionality, stance, and news values, as well as Python and corpus linguistic techniques. His publications appear in international journals such as African Journalism Studies, Applied Linguistics, Critical Discourse Studies, Discourse & Communication, Discourse Context & Media, Discourse & Society, Discourse Studies, Journalism Studies, Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly, Journal of Language and Politics, Journal of Pragmatics, Social Semiotics, and Text & Talk. He has also published two monographs with Springer (2018) and Cambridge University Press (2020, with Helen Caple and Monika Bednarek). He currently serves two SSCI-indexed journals, Journal of Language and Politics, and Social Semiotics, as editorial board member or Social Media Editor.
Professor E. Aminudin Aziz

E. Aminudin Aziz is Professor of Pragmatics and Forensic Linguistics at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia or Indonesia University of Education, Bandung, West Java. He obtained his degrees from Monash University, Australia in 1996 and 2000. As an academic, Aminudin has published widely scholarly works mainly in his specialization Linguistic Politeness and Sociolinguistics. For several years, Aminudin has also been active as a Linguistics Expert Witness for the Indonesian National Police. Toward the end of his term of office as the Education and Culture Attaché at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, in London, the United Kingdom (2016-2020), where he was awarded as Education Attaché of the Year 2019, Aminudin was appointed as Head of Agency for Language Development and Cultivation, Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Republic of Indonesia where he introduced language policy reforms at the national level. Currently, Aminudin is also Acting Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia.
Professor Dr Lixian Jin

Dr. Lixian Jin is Chair Professor in Applied Linguistics and Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the acting Dean for the School of Education at City University of Macau.
She worked in a Chinese university for five years, at British universities from Lecturer to Chair professor for over 30 years, and at Chinese University of Hong Kong for two years as a visiting professor. She is President of International Association of Intercultural Communication Studies. She has been awarded research grants and developed international research teams from China, Malaysia, Singapore, and EU countries to study ELT, intercultural communication in leadership and business contexts and bilingual language assessments for language disability. Sponsored by the British Council and local governments, she has provided teacher, healthcare and other professional training sessions in China, Britain, Lebanon, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Turkey, Iran, Cyprus and Japan, She has produced College English textbook series as editor and writer: Creative Reading, Creative Communication, Creative Writing; Teachers’ books for New Standard College English and New Horizon College English for Macmillan jointly with Chinese top publishers; as well as translated a series of children picture books into English. Her over 200 publications focus on researching cultures of learning, intercultural communication, sustainable leadership, metaphor and narrative analysis and bilingual clinical assessments.
Professor Dr. Peter De Costa (President of AAAL, USA)

Peter I. De Costa is a Professor in the Department of Linguistics, Languages & Cultures and the Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University, where he directs the Master’s in TESOL program in the College of Arts & Letters. He is also the English as a Second Language (ESL) graduate director in the College of Education. As a critical applied linguist, his research areas include emotions, identity, ideology and ethics in language learning, language teaching, and language policy. In addition, his ecologically- and social justice-oriented work looks at the intersection between second language acquisition (SLA), second language teacher education (SLTE), and language policy. He is the co-editor of TESOL Quarterly and the President of the American Association for Applied Linguistics.
Professor Setiono Sugiharto

His areas of research interest include language ideology in transnationalism and sociolinguistics of globalization.
Dr Ayeshah Syed Mohd Noori

Ayeshah Syed is a discourse analyst and senior lecturer at the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL), Universiti Malaya, where she currently serves as Deputy Dean of Research and Innovation.
Ayeshah studies language use in health-related contexts, including current funded studies on interprofessional discourse during house officer training and patient perspectives in gum disease treatment. She has also studied treatment decision making, primary care consultations and sustainability discourse, as well as the use of tools such as patient decision aids, teleconsultation guidelines and a web-based agenda-setting tool in doctor-patient talk.
She is involved in promoting interdisciplinary collaboration across the language and health sciences, through various activities and appointments. This includes as Protem Deputy Head of the Innovative Medical Devices Centre of Excellence and as a task-force member of the Medical Humanities and Ethics Unit (MedHEU) at Universiti Malaya. Among MedHEU’s interdisciplinary activities is the Difficult Conversations webinar series, in which experts from linguistics and clinicians share insights about conversations on topics such as breaking bad news and end-of-life conversations.
Prior to taking up an academic position, she worked extensively in language/content services, language consulting and skills development for Malaysian and international organisations. She graduated with a PhD in Discourse Studies from FLL, Universiti Malaya in 2019 and holds a Masters in English as a Second Language. She holds a CELTA qualification and is a HRDF-certified trainer.
Professor Dr. Martin Cortazzi

Dr. Martin Cortazzi is a Visiting Professor of Applied Linguistics at the University of Warwick, UK and City University of Macau. He has published 5 books over 100 academic articles and book chapters in key areas of language education (methods of teaching and learning, large classes, vocabulary, issues withing language, culture and intercultural communication), qualitative research methods (using narrative and metaphor analysis), besides editing and co-authoring 26 classroom textbooks for the teaching of College English and 10 accompanying teacher’s books, which feature resources for developing classroom methods and ideas for teacher development (invited by leading educational publishers Beijing and Shanghai). At the University for Leicester and Brunel University he taught and managed full-time training programmes for primary and secondary teachers of English in Britain for over 20 years, together with tutoring on CELTA and DELTA programmes in the UK. Through those universities and the British Council, besides other invitations, he has conducted many workshops and extended training sessions for school and university teachers of English in Britain, China, Lebanon, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Brunei, Iran, Turkey, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Cyprus, and Norway.
